Though close, it is not quite correct to say that Ishmael’s decendents became Muslims. It is closer to say that Ishmael’s descendants became what we know as Arabs, and that most Arabs became ‘Muslims’ many years later. We have to remember that Islam did not arise until 1600 years after Ishmael, allowing Ishmael’s decendants to be Philistines etc. along the way, whereas Judaism originated in Isaac’s lifetime.

In general the Lord gave gifts to Ishmael, especially with putting all that oil under their lands, but the promised inheritance was reserved for Isaac.
